[Shotimes] SHO stuff

I drag raced a 1990 5.0L HO, the stock tranny, a T5 lasted 25K, then it
started whining and making odd sounds, then it lost all but 4th gear and
reverse.
of course that was 25K of my driving, and yes I double clutch. ;-)
had 75k on it total including my time with it.
the next to go in was a world class T5, which was beefed up a bit. very
good, until I went with the 24lb injectors, upgraded MAF, 75mm throttle
body, cold air, and custom tuned racing chip.
car was putting out a lot more ooomph, to the point that I was begging NTB
for old throw away shocks to pu tin the rear, along with worn out springs so
that the rear end would have more give to it. ( I couldn't hook up at all
with 15x8's onteh rear)
after I did that, it was ok until I had about 12K on that setup, and took
out the driveshaft, after that was upgraded, 1K more and my world class
became scrap class.
went with a tremec tko... no problems with the tremec TKO, but I ahve heard
you can do some mean stuff to a T3350 without reprocussions.
btw, the 1990 5.0L HO is now in a scrap pile somewhere as it got away on a
launch, when for the first time the front corner lifted off the track threw
me off guard and took it into a barrier.
btw, insurance companies frown upon drag racing unless you specify you are
goin to drag race your car.
oops

The one to talk to on this list about T5's is Gerald Harmon (you out there
buddy?). He drag races a supercharged Mustang 5.0 with a T5. I don't know
what he is using now, but if you are willing to wait a couple days, I'll
look through my old emails from him describing his gearbox (or maybe Gerald
can pipe in :-) From what I remember from him telling me, a T5 is only as
good as the fool shifting it. An aftermarket shifter is a necessity, as
this is where most of the problems start.
