[Shotimes] Where do you set your EATC to?

I have ALWAYS left mine on "automatic" set around 75 degrees. Sometimes on
cooler days I have to turn it off as the interior will heat up from sunshine
when parked and the A/C will kick on when the car is first started.

I am under the understanding that the A/C compressor cycles because it share
the same basic space as the heater inside the car.

I was reading the ownwer's manual in my '95 yesterday and it stated that it
is
best to leave the EATC in the "Automatic" mode all the time for
winter/summer.
I don't do this becasue I think the compressor runs all the time in the
"Automatic" mode even in the winter. In the winter I usually wait until the
engine warms up and either put it on "Floor" or "Vent" thinking the
compressor
is not running.
Is this true? Is the compressor running @ temperatures below 50: F?
Thanks.
