I found the link. It is long reading but it gets pretty funny if you
read all the way through. It also shows the seriousness yet stupidity of
the scammer.

Unfortunately this is a very common scam, but it has occurred enough
times that there are many resources on the net that document it. 

My suggestion to anyone getting a certified check, bank check, etc. Call
the bank or the agency that it was issued on. Most official checks are
drawn on Integrated Payment Systems. I don't have their 800 number
handy, but they can tell you if the check is genuine or not. 

To shed some humor on the subject, there is a funny site that documents
someone's emails with a scammer. Basically he scammed the scammer and
took him for a bit of a ride. I will try to find the URL and post it
when I do.

Don, I am also on the Mercedes Benz UNIMOG list.  One of our members was

taken by this exact scam.  He even called his bank and they said that
they 
had the money for him in his account and that there was no problem.  The
bank 
did not find out that the check bounced until two weeks after it was 
deposited into his account.  He lost out on $2600 which is the amount he
sent 
to the scammer. He did report it, but nothing he could do. The same
scammer 
also contacted another list member a few days ago, we figured out this 
scammer was looking at a central list where we list Unimogs for sale.
Same 
as our SHOs.
