As Mike mentioned about the Yokos, which is the same case with the Kumhos,
is that they are NOT all-season tires. Tire Rack will tell you that the
Kumhos are not effective below about 40 degrees, and it appears that the
Yoko ES 100s are the same.
FWIW, I have the 450s on my 911 and love hem. They are excellent in the
rain. Also, Mark may have found them to no have good traction on a FWD SHO,
but I felt that dry traction was fine on the 911, as I was able to turn a
13.98 @ 102 on a basically stock 911 without a limited slip diff and they
hooked up quite well. The Nitto 450s are also all-season tires.
FWIW, I am seriously considering the Yoko ES 100s for summer tires for the
SHO. They are the new silica-compound tires which supposedly do not get hard
as they age and wear down. Based on this, I would recommend the ES100s for
summer-only, or year 'round in a warm climate, or the Nitto 450s for an
all-season tire.
