[Shotimes] OT SOTU drinking

I still want to know where the "r" ever came from??

My neighbors (from Minnesota) say it too! I'll turn this back to beer
soon, I promise. My wife and In-laws are from Minnesota too, but this
didn't afflict them for some reason. But there are some good ones from
her side of the family.

Ambliance (ambulance), I flicked my wife so much crap about this one for
so long it finally stuck!!

Here's the one I still struggle with: My In-laws are both Swedish and
Finnish. They took "Sauna's". In fact the in-laws have property in
Eastern Oregon (really Cool) where there is no running water or
electricity. Long story, but the land is in the Three Rivers Area right
by Lake Billy Chinook. Everyone sets up their homes with
propane/gravity fed water supplies/generators etc. My in-laws built a
"sauna", which is really cool but very HOT!. Poor the water on the
rocks and steam yourself to a perfect clean in about 5 minutes - that's
about as long as I can stay in there anyway. Unless the AWA is helping
with the procedure :-).

Here is the thing: They all pronounce it "Souna" (like cowna),just
didn't know how to do this in email. I don't know any other
pronunciation except "Sauna" - (like SinAtra). Anybody know where this
came from? I am totally open to other cultures pronunciations - but
this one has been bugging me since I met my wife some 20 years ago. Any
of you Mid-Westerners deal with this regularly?? George???

O.K. - back to beer, I don't want to get too far OT here. A couple
years ago we had some relatives from Minnesota here for Christmas. They
were drinking Miller in a can. I had one of these guys taste a real
beer from Oregon (micro-brew). Oregon is like a micro-brew mega-state
with much to choose from. God, he hated it. First of all it almost
knocked him on his ass and second he just thought it was plain nasty
tasting shit. He still asks when I talk to him if I'm still drinking
that nasty stuff - and I have to reply - damn right!

Suggestions if you can find them:

Deschutes Brewery - Black Butte Porter
Deschutes Brewery - Blonde Ale Lager
Bridgeport Brewery - IPA
Henry Weinhard - Blonde Ale (fairly inexpensive but decent)
(many others!)

Sorry for the long post - once again though, not much going on with the
SHO so I just thought I'd get in on some of the OT stuff for now. You
guys are funny and I can't wait to meet some of you in person one of
these days.

George - to show you how much I really pay attention - Are you even in
the Mid-West? Talk about memory fading with age - I'm only 38 but I
feel like I'm 60. Since there is so many of you regulars posting
constantly - I realize now how little I really take in just lurking for
the most part!

Kerry - '93 - awaiting surgery (60k + some other stuff). BTW - If it
wasn't for all you guys out there, I really wouldn't appreciate my car
and want to make it better. THANKS!!!!!

I do that too. As far as I can tell, I have no other mispronounciations
or
accents. But I say I'm going to warsh clothes, rather than 'wash' them.
I can
easily say 'wash', but it takes a little extra effort to move my tongue
where
it needs to go for that.

Funny!!
