1)  I'd be on the lookout for a new knuckle.

2)  Go ahead and cut the tab off the old strut, and the new one, IF you need to to
get it installed properly.  I've cut the tabs on my struts, and had the car on the
track, and they haven't moved a silly millimeter.

3)  I'd try to ream out the bolt hole in the knuckle as large as I could, and use a
bolt and nut as large as I could get in there.
