OK Don, I'm bored, so I'll prolong this...
Assuming on-the-car balancing is the greatest thing since sliced bread, I
still think it was premature for you and George to send the guy off in
search of this. If you re-read his original post, he said "I played around
with the Both Tires, checking the Inner and Outer Tie-Rod. With no weight
on them, they seem fine. I also thought about it, it could be wheel-balance,
but this shimmy doesn seem consistent with a wheel that is out of balanced."
It doesn't sound to me like the guy's EVER had the tires balanced.
Certainly not recently, and not several times. It sounds like another
typical case where someone is discounting the obvious problem/solution.
It's like taking your car in to have the motor rebuilt if it won't start.
Hello? Maybe it just needs a new battery.
Perhaps balancing the tires on the car helps in those cases where a spin
balancer doesn't. I'll grant you that. But I don't believe someone needs
to immediately resort to this because they have a steering wheel vibration
on the highway. You should try a simple balance first. Rule out a bent
wheel or a bad tire. THEN, if all else fails, maybe go search for a place
to balance them on the car.
That's my advise and I'm sticking to it.
Dave
PS I'm not mad either. Too close to the convention for that!
PPS Guys, if I'm stuck in the Ladies group at BlackHawk in a couple weeks,
this is why. :)
