I can see their point, though. 

Really, the '92 just had new sheetmetal, the interior was pretty much a '91
carryover, which then evolved into the '93-'95 setup. 

The '96 was an obvious change, but I disagree that it is virtually identical
to the '03. The '00 was a big change for Ford. That's when they totally
redid the "Oval" interior theme for the more conventional type, as well as
getting away from the "Oval" look on the exterior. IIRC, virtually every
piece of sheetmetal was new on the '00 car. Although I rarely notice the '00
and newer cars, when one is parked next to a '96-'99, they are quite
different.

Doesn't really matter, except when you are talking to a Ford employee you
may get a puzzled look when you talk about the "Gen 3 SHO"!!

As I suspected, but funny.  There is less difference between 
the 96 and 00 Taurus than the 91 and 92.  The 92 had a 
different size body on the ends, quite a bit of difference 
in the trunk.  As with the 99-02 change though, the body of 
the car is virtually exactly the same.
