Not necessarily, Dave. With the PFCM pads and new rotors, you stand a
better chance of NOT warping the rotors. I made this switch back about 4
years ago at the Atlanta convention. I'd rather spend the few extra dollars
and have a setup I know has a better chance at making me happy. The pads
lasted me until last Fall when I decided to do the 96 brake upgrade, and I
had no issues with rotor warping up until that time. By contrast, I was
never happy with the stock Ford brakes and semi-metallic pads. The rotors
would always start warping within a few thousand miles of use. I remember
one time talking to the service manager at Johnson Ford in Kingston, NY and
he told me that Ford had switched to a new pad material in the 1993
timeframe to help avoid the warping issue, but the difference must have been
minimal at best and I still ended up going through 5 sets of rotors (4 under
warranty) until I caught on to use of PFCM pads. I made the choice to
switch based on the recommendations here and bought the pads and rotors
together. It was money well spent.
Now having done the 96 brake upgrade, I have better stopping power and no
longer have the significant brake dust accumulation that the PFCM give, but
that's a whole 'nother ballgame as they say.
Cheers,
