    Yes!  I run into this a lot at different track events, makes it more
interesting when you got 170 hp vtech 1500 lb civics on race tires and a 350
hp vette on street tires..  Eat up somebody in the corners, get a point by
off the corner, and then get on the straight and they let the big horses run
and we drag race down the straight, my stock cam'd 3.2L gasping for air  not
making any ground on them :)

For the guy doing the passing, I've found it's easier if you know you are
coming up on a passing zone to lag back, and get a good run through the last
corner and get the momentum.  Typically folks will look in their mirros when
you haul off the corner behind them and swing wide (most folks tend to see
peripheral movement in their mirrors)  If you just tail somebody off the
corner and wait to get the point, it's hard to get momentum to get by them
if they don't breathe the gas.  If you have a good run on them even if they
have 100 more hp and are in the gas, you'll still scoot by pretty easy.

Several track events I've been to encourage flashing lights for a point by,
sorta odd at first but usually works well once used to it.
