The throttle in my 97 is very stiff.  I had another 97 beside it one time (http://www.structuralengenuity.com/billy_pics/100_1299b.jpg) and the difference in the throttles was easy to see.  I didn't think to check at the time if there were different springs on mine.  I have tried lubricating the cable but that is almost impossible to do without removing it all.  The Helms says not to lube it, but to replace it.
