[Shotimes] Replacing CPS: What Else Should I Replace?

Our "collective" experience is that you don't want to gamble with the water pump.  When the water pump goes, then the CPS usually goes right after that.  While you have the front taken apart, it is better to replace the timing belt, water pump, and CPS.

In my case I changed my first timing belt at 70k miles.  A month later the CPS went out leaving me stranded on a trip.  I changed it on the day after Thanksgiving and could not get a water pump in time so didn't change that.  A month later the water pump went out so had to change that.  I would have saved myself a lot of labor if I changed all 3 the first time.

Of course you never can predict the life of various components, and some people do get lucky.  My car is not at 160k and still has the original alternator and AC compressor, although all of the other major components have been replaced.
