[Shotimes] To service or not to service?

Once the "funky" shifting starts, the damage has already occurred. It's
only a matter of time until it fails at this point. A filter & oil change
could possibly shorten it's life by some amount, but it is going to die soon
anyway. You will likely do best by saving the service money & plan on a
complete rebuild soon. Insist on a Trans Go shift kit and make certain that
your shop does the entire set of mods in the kit. Some trans shops only do
the most important parts of the kit and don't bother with every single step.
There are lots of little details in the kit that need to be addressed.

Also you didn't mention which year your SHO is. If it's a 93, replace the
computer with a 94/95 unit. All 93's have a version of the H3Z computer.
Go get a D4U1 from a 94 or 95. They make shifts a bit firmer. May help
keep you going a bit longer. Al Fitz may have on for you.

I run Valvoline High Mileage ATF. It worked great at Blackhawk this week.

Over the years I have learned to leave some automatic transmissions alone.
This is especially true for late 70's and early 80's cars. Regardless of
how much you like the like the car and want to keep it tip top, servicing
certain automatic transmissions would just result in the trans slipping very
badly or even not moving at all shortly after the service. What have people
experienced with SHO ATX? My 140k mile transmission is doing the typical
high mileage stuff. No slipping just funky up and down shifts. I would
like to service it but if there's any chance of making it worse I'm going to
leave the sleeping beast alone. Also, what fluid is best for a trans with
this much mileage?
