Subject: [Shotimes] Convention! A blast!!!

Just signed back on, was off-list for the last week or so, so if I missed
any convention posts before now, please fwd them to me. Want to hear
everybody's story!

We just made it back to NY late last night. Had a blast all week! You
haven't made a road trip till you've followed josh pulling a 2000 lb 5'x8'
trailer at 90 mph. 11 mpg under boost, 200 miles on a tank. We stopped at
every gas station from NY to WI to fill up that gas hog.

Blackhawk was a hoot, drags was hot and humid but still fun. Got to play
with the tuner there and was able to pick up 1-2 tenth and 1-2 mph over the
baseline stock EEC program. Ran the same best n/a ET as last year, 14.16.
How's that for consistant! For whatever reason, my 89 doesn't get as
bothered by the heat as my 92 (and seems other SHO's). Every track I've
been on, from cold weather to hot, it's always within 2 tenths. I was pink
on the tree on my first round run .493 light, ran a nice 14.26 on a 14.20
dial but you can't win brackets when you beat yourself! At least an MTX won
this year :)

Blackhawk was real fun I thought, surface was smooth and grippy, but didn't
grind on the tires bad. Real flat, what you see is what you get, pretty
easy to pick up on. Real hard on the brakes as I got a little spongy with
my wilwoods. Need to up to the 1" rotors and get some cooling ducts up
front.

I never got a clean lap all day (always ran into somebody at some point) but
was able to match up video frames from 2 different 1/2 clean laps on the 2nd
session and time out a full "clean" lap and it came to 1:26:09. That was
the 2nd session (first WOT session as the first one was a slow pace) and I
was a few hundred rpm off the pace in a few spots compared to later in the
day. Wished I could have gotten a clean lap timed at the end of the day
when I was better and smoother on the track. What were the times from the
previous convention? I remember Don posted them but I can't remember.

When I was behind Josh for a few laps I think we were running 1:31ish. Need
to check the tape again. Josh was 3675 (no driver) on the scale, I was
3160. Same track tires (V70), but I got mine on 7.5" rims (josh on slicers)
and was quicker through the tight parts of the course. On the straights
josh could pull away when he got into the boost but I was happy even on the
straights that I could stay as close as I did. Took Kegal for a ride during
the 3rd session and took Tom W. with me on the 4th, ended my day after 1 lap
when I flat spotted the tires off in 1. Botched that corner! Super fun
track though, I'd love to go back sometime.

Had run riding with the AWA in the novice class, slow at first, but she had
the tranny/quaife temp up to 220 on the 3rd run! Since I tore up the tires
she didn't get to run the 4th, which I felt bad for.

Got to see everybody again, and meet some new faces. Kegal and Metros, been
on the list emailing them for yrs and finally got to meet both. Both have
crazy clean cars! Congrats on the show awards.

Loved the 8500 mile 89 and the SHO truck, and I ran out of time to steal
some body panels and subframe off the alum sable :)

Had a blast!!!!!!! (and didnt' break anything, and didn't have to help josh
change a tranny)
