The only noises in my 67,700 mi. almost 14 year old '89 are; the passenger side
seatbelt rattles slightly when unoccupied, and the console rubs against the
drivers seat bolster, making a subtle, squeaky, sort of fart noise. (doesn't
stink though) What Ron say's is right on, stay on top of your maintainence.
Especially rubber suspension and engine components. No car will stay new
forever, but, if you take care of 'em they can live well for a long time.

Good point. My '89 was tight as a drum after 10 years. The way to a tight
suspension is to replace all tie rods ends, bushings, links, etc on 10+
year-old cars. There is nothing that makes the SHO tighter in suspension
components than new parts.
Frankly, if you like the '89, just go through the whole suspension and
replace ALL the wear parts, and you will get what you want.......along with
some better struts, Intrax or Eibach springs, some long subframe connectors,
and aluminum subframe bushings.
