Because TR will only sell packages they know will fit the car without putting
themselvses in jeopardy of warranty or cust sat complaints due to improper
fitment. It just seems to me that their database hasn't been kept current for
the SHO.
As for you point about cutting fender lips and such, most people won't do
that, so if someone bought a set of wheels and tires and found that the tires
rubbed against the strut tower or fender, they'd probably be calling TR to
complain why they were sold something that doesn't work. I believe that they
will sell you anything you want so long as you sign a disclaimer.
About 8" rim choices, there are some. http://www.groupawheels.com/prod01.htm
and look for Snyper. I know at least one SHO owner that has these. I happen
to be partial to narrow spoke wheels. When you go for 8" wheels and then
have to deal with the 5x108 bolt pattern, already limited choices in selection
get to an extreme. Besides that, you have to be careful about the offset.
BTW, I pointed you to a 16" wheel. If you decide to do suspension upgrades
and then also have 17" wheels you'll end up with a fairly harsh ride for
normal driving. I have all the known types of upgrades installed on my 92
except for the subframe connectors and with my slicers on H-rated rubber it's
already borderline.
