I had trouble the first time I tried this too. IIRC, the CEL flash after the
idle is restored is sometimes very brief so you might miss it. The other more
important point is to make sure you do the WOT to say 6000 RPM to be safe.
2000 wasn't enough for me.

OK..... I did. It doesn't flash. Even if I didn't do what it asks, it will
give me codes saying I didn't do the steps. Engine nice and hot.

From the FAQ and picking up after the sequence you got up to,
a.. The motor will smooth out and idle. You will see a single flash of the
Check Engine light. <---- This is key!
a.. After this flash, you have 10 seconds to turn the wheel both ways, hit
the brake, and snap the throttle wide open, enough to get the engine above
2000 RPM, release the throttle, and let the engine return to idle.
Also, make sure the engine is hot or you will get bogus codes.
