Thought I would shed light upon the issue I had installing a 2-core rad from
SHO Shop in my 94 MTX.
The stock coolant reservoir bottle literally "barely" squeezes in the
remaining area after the 2-core was installed. The bottom "tab" support on
the bottle now rests on the lower frame area (as opposed to the specific
niche in stock location). The top steel "Y" support no longer fits as the
2-core pushes everything out 3/4" or so. a few tie wraps and the bottle is
more or less intact. I am sure with fabricated parts I could secure the
bottle in this location with integrity...but I've opted to go with the ATX
bottle system to ensure all remains in place.
This reservoir issue should be handled when I retro fit a ATX coolant bottle
in the battery area. Its a $78 part but I think I have found a used
one....should work fine, especially as my battery has been relocated to the
trunk.
After replacing the thermostat (seems it went bad when I replaced the
radiator)...all is well, running well and overall engine runs a bit cooler.
I wish SHO Shop had advised me more accurately about the reservoir issue up
front, would have saved me running around and too many hours sorting all
this out. Tom at SHO Shop however was available, gracious and openly
helpful...so overall no complaints.
I also thank you folks for the help and the initial warning about this
problem......I am now investigating engine performance options to further
the cause. So far car has KN filter, Vortech Air mass meter...looking to see
what else is out there thats not too costly.
Thanks
