Be sure to use the Lexol Leather CLEANER.

lexol is a two part process, and you should always use the
cleaner before using the conditioner. Other products are
"all in one" or a "cleaner/conditioner" in one bottle.
These never are as good in my opinion, and that of a lot of
experts, as a two part process.

If the problem is dirt, Lexol will get it. If it is stain
like tire rubber (don't ask) or ink from a pen or marker,
you will probably just have to wait for time and the sun to
remove it (have faith, I have had both tire marks and ink
removed by just keeping the area clean and conditioned with
Lexol and waiting for them to fade naturally.

If you use the Lexol as recommended, it will never harm the
leather. Don't use stiff brushes, and never use steel wool!
