[Shotimes] Coolant not heat!

The coolant bottle has a level sensor built in.  That would account for the
extra connector.

AutoZone will loan you a very nice cooling system pressure tester for a
deposit of around $75.  I suggest you pick one up and test the system at 16
psi.  By using the pressure tester, you don't have to work on a hot engine
and be around coolant that is around 200 degrees F.  ANY leaks will be very
quickly located.
