What about the Chevrolet-Cosworth Vega Twin Cam of the mid-70s? The guy
down the street from me had one when I was a kid (then he bought a Monza
Spyder - I always wanted that car). Looking back, the Cosworth was a neat
little engine - all alum 4-cyl, fuel inj, twin OHCs, header, but only 100+
HP in a crappy rust bucket of a car. In an effort to boost Vega sales Chevy
made sure to put Cosworth's name all over that thing (and probably to
deflect some of the blame if it didn't work). At least the cam cover had
Cosworth and Chevy on it.
I know the regular Vega engine was a big POS, but I don't recall the
Cosworth engine being that much better. A typical mid-70s 4-cyl choked by
emissions standards.
