Jeep is a great example of this:

engines-

late 60s/early 70s used Buick 225 V-6 and 350 V-8
early 80s CJ used a Pontiac 151 I-4
mid 80s CJ and YJ/TJ used AMC 150 I-4
mid 80s Cherokee used Chevy 2.8L V-6


auto trans-

late 70s CJ used GM TH-400 auto trans
mid 80s used Chrysler TF-904 (4-cyl) and TF-999 (I-6 and V-8)


manual trans-

60s/70s CJ used Borg-Warner/Chevy 3-speed & 4-speed
80s CJ-7 used Borg-Warner/Ford T-4 and T-5 or Tremec/Ford T-176
square headlight Wrangler (YJ) used Peugeot and Aisin (Japanese)
90s TJ uses Aisin/Toyota


transfer cases-

many types from AMC, Dana, and New Process/New Venture


front and rear axles-

many types from from AMC, Dana, and Chrysler
