Ron, 
You're right, more often than not it is the case that the best chassis/engine 
combo will take one of the top 3 or so drivers to the championship. But, there 
are races and seasons when a highly motivated driver will take a 3rd place car 
and drag (or push it) it across the line into second place or, sometimes when 
luck is with him, in first enough times to eke out the title. Those rare times  
of indomitable spirit are what I watch racing for, and why I'm such a fan. But 
F1 ain't no instant gratification sport, hell no, it's more like growing Bonsai 
trees. You take your pleasure in long slow doses with a lotta dry spells in 
between.

Thanks for straightening me out, guys, as those I mentioned have been more
successful than I thought.  I have one other comment, though - does not the
F1 champion more often than not pilot that year's best chassis/make?  Seems
almost every year one make is light years ahead of the rest, and it's very
difficult for a better driver to overcome a better car.  This year seems to
have more parity than most.
