OK, I'll buy that. Yes, the struts are part of the structure of the suspension, simply because they are the spring perches. But bad struts will not cause the car to sag. Bad springs will cause the car to sag.
Now give me a break, I did right that before 8:00am in the morning. And you know I'm not a morning person! :-)

OK, with a nod to the "cam bearing" issue, here goes:
The struts DO hold up the car, in combination with the springs.
Take out the struts, and the car falls to the ground! :)
Not like my 66 Grand prix where you CAN remove the shocks
and the car will still sit perfectly level! But it will
bounce like a buckboard from the wild west.
In any car with a strut, the strut is an integral part of
the suspension and thus DOES hold the car up. The spring
perch is part of every strut.
What does NOT hold the car up, is the strut INSERT or the
piston/shock portion inside the strut, although in a strut,
even THAT portion does help locate the suspension, thus that
is why the strut shaft is so much bigger than a regular shock.
I may not have used all the 100% correct terms, but I think
you can get the drift.
There, everyone discuss and have fun!
