Don, Yes, I remember that story all too well.  But not all dealerships are
staffed with idiots.   Mine was done without any problem.  Johnson Ford in
Kingston, NY in case anyone wants to know.  Maybe you can play 20 questions
with the service manager at another dealership to find out how many recall
kits they've installed to gain some degree of confidence.

When it comes to this sort of thing, safety concerns are always at the top
of the pecking order.
