A friend of mine has the MX's in 225/50/17 on an RSX. These are by far
the loudest tire I have ever heard. They sound like 33" mud tires on a
jeep, without the high pitch. The best I could describe it is like wind
and engine noise in an airplane. I have the es100 mounted on slicers in
225/50/16 and I love them, extremely quiet, even over concrete made to
look like bricks. Just stay out of the snow with them.

Guess I should have remembered earlier threads on this, but no big deal!
My new tire toss-up was between Yoko ES100s in 225/55/16, or possibly
Kumho
MXs in 225/50/16 (only usable 16" size). I have been getting my tires
through Discount Tire, but there is now a new installer for Tire Rack's
stuff not too far away. At the last second, I ordered the MXs, rather
than
the ES100s.
Got the call from Tire Rack a bit later, saying that they wouldn't sell
me
the MXs because 225/50/16 was "only" 1389 weight, whereas the stock
tires
were 1477, etc, etc. Doesn't matter that the gross GVW for the front
axle is
2512, because the original tires were 1477. Pointless arguing with them
as
they won't do it.
Ordered the ES100s as was my original plan (weight limit: 1521 in
225/55/16). Guess the obvious answer for folks wanting 225/50s is to
order
for a car that had them. My other thought was to order it fro a standard
Taurus, as I bet the standard 14" or 15" tires are rated less than 1389
per
tire!
