This is excellent FAQ and or archive information!

Thanks Don. I hope I don't have to drop the tranny, let alone crack one
open again. But jumping back to reality, when I do, what is involved?
Anyone have a write up?

Justin,

I have one other theory:

When Mike Courtney put in my Quaife, he noticed that my 89's
tranny had been opened before (wrong color sealant he said)
and that some shims on the main and secondary shafts were
missing (also the magnet was gone). He replaced the shims
and magnet.

In driving home I noticed that getting into any gear from a
stop was near impossible, and shifting was hard on the move.

After a couple weeks of this, it didn't get better, I made
another trip to MN where Mike, to his credit did the right
thing, took it apart again and took out the shims that were
making the shafts so tight that they would not move the
fraction of an inch necessary for the gears to mesh at rest.

As always, my 89 is odd (won't take a chip, Hypertech or
LPM), funny trans etc. But I still love it! ;)
