[Shotimes] cooling fan relay

Let me fill in the blanks, because here is what I think he said:

1) my cooling fan is not turning on and the cooling fan relay is at fault.
That relay is in this housing which has many wires going in/out of it. This
housing is just above the radiator on the drivers side, hidden by the
plastic piece with the pictures of how the serpentine belts are configured
and all that other jazz. I would love to replace this relay assembly, but
its too expensive (how much is that anyway?), so I am going to wire a switch
directly to the fan motor and bypass the relay. If possible, is there any
easy way to fix the cooling relay so I don't have to wire directly to the
fan motor?

2) I ran the ecc self test by pushing OFF and FLOOR buttons simultaneously
and then the AUTOMATIC button within 2 seconds. After 20 seconds I got code
888 (no failures) but mistook it for a fault. When you first start you car
and the ecc is given power, all of the lights/leds turn on as it goes thru
its startup phase, and this is what the results of the ecc self test look
like. Not realizing this is the 888 code signifying that everything is ok, I
probably also forgot to hit the COOLER button to exit the self test mode.

Read the result codes here to get a better understanding. its kind of
misleading because this page says that error code 6 means "no errors", but I
believe its supposed to say "result code 6 which displays '888' means that
there were no errors"
