Firewall can't stop a virus imbedded in an otherwise legitimate email.

Isn't Mailwasher an application running on the PC or server? That would
definitely be post-firewall.

AV software is reactionary while a firewall is pro active.  You can't stop a
virus that you don't have the update to if you rely on AV software.  A
firewall will stop all unwanted activity.  If you use Mailwasher it will
stop it before the firewall.
