If the if the pinch bolts aren't tight, the loop keeps the strut from
dropping and hitting the axle. You really don't have a lot of room for a
drop in the front. If you do this, you also should be checking the pinch
bolt occasionally to make sure it's still tight, and is still clamped on the
same spot on the strut.
