Mike,
Get yourself a router from D-link, say a 604 or a wireless one. When you get
it you can shoot me your phone number, I'll give you a call (I have
unlimited free LD) I used to set up those routers for ppl when I installed
small networks for a little cable company. They are really easy to setup and
would take about 10 min on the phone to make sure it is all setup right, and
anything that you need like FTP (in) or any other special programs like AIM,
ICQ, Y!, IRC, ect arer set up to pass thru the firewall while still blocking
all other outside axx.
Software firewalls are decent, but a hardware one in a router is better, the
hardware won't crash, where software might, plus the software ones can be
disabled by an unknowing person using the computer, hardware (physical
router) is impossible to bypass without changing wires.
