[Shotimes] OT routers & firewalls - was (OT) Somebody Has
A Virus!

Glad you had good luck with Dlink, I didn't, nor did a few folks I know
(this was on the older gateway router).
The Linksys and Netgear (Bay) gateway routers I've had were plug-n-play. I
got a Siemens for my brother-in-law, and that one was pretty slick, also.
The Siemens virtually had the full functionality of a true firewall.

Mike,
I have a D-Link cable router and set up was extremely simple. You connect
to the router using your web browser and run through quick setup wizard,
make some changes to your IP configuration on your PC and you're done. I
had my router up and running less than 20 minutes after the Roadrunner
installers left my house.

Ok, maybe somebody can answer this for me. How do you configure a
firewall on a router? I have cable broadband at home. Right now I'm
running a software firewall (Black Ice). I'm thinking about getting a
router; mainly so I can get internet access on my other computer. But
I don't understand how you can "set it up", if the firewall is now
before the computer. Does software "flash" a chip in the router? Or
do you use the settings prgrammed into it right out of the box?
