Now I am thinking it's not the cam sensor.  I just ran that test where you
check to see how the engine runs with the cam sensor disconnected.  If it
runs with the same symptoms, I've heard that means a bad cam sensor.

Well, mine ran much worse.  In fact it didn't want to start at all.  With
the sensor reconnected, it cranked for a moment and then started.

So I'm still open to ideas.
