The stock crank damper went bad on my 94 ATX about a year ago. The rubber
part seems to have separated. The pulley part moved toward the engine and
ground up my lower timing belt cover. It tore the serpentine belt to
shreads. I finally found a new one at a dealership about 90 miles away.
Cost around $300. I got a lower cover from Don D. and also an idler
pulley. Mine sounded suspicious. Everything has been fine since then.
