[Shotimes] Reverse Lights

Has anyone has to deal with reverse lights that won't come on? The fuses
are all good (if any go to the reverse lights), and the bulbs themselves
work. They come on once in a while but not all the time. Chilton's has a
spot for back-up light switch that connects on the transaxle, but I
can't locate the thing on my tranny. Any clue where it may be? On top or
bottom, front or back? General area is fine. I just looked all around
and don't see what Chilton's is describing. This is on a '90 3.0L
