would get up there..

In a few weeks Ill pull the lower end apart to really see . This is just
really odd to me

I have a 3.0 that is trashed. We pulled the heads to see what happened and
found a piece of a ring embedded in the top of the piston. So your first
diagnosis is probably what happened.
