Yep, I agree on the strut mount also. Pretty common on older cars. Unless
you live in a climate where the bolts never rust, it's just a bit of a pain
to get the everything off.

Also, if you do it, but some new rear pinch bolts for the strut....or if you
don't want to hassle with trying to preserve the threads when one breaks
off, get a good carbide drill, then use a bolt & nut to replace it.

Could be a rear strut mount. The mental insert in the rubber separates,
becomes loose and causes an annoying rattle or knock. Must drop the rear
strut out to replace the mount. Since you first noticed the rattles has it
become progressively worse? One possible source to investigate.. Hope I'm
wrong too..

Hi all,

For the past few months, I've had a bit of a rattle coming from the rear
passenger-side door, seeming to originate from just behind the door
latch. It's more of a tappity-tap-tap-tap kind of a rapping sound, but
I'm hoping that possibly somebody here might've had their first gen SHO
start rattling around the same area, and possibly might've found a
solution, and be willing to share it...

So far I've pulled my backseat out (surprisingly easy, except that I've
got to find a place to store it until I've solved the rattle), adjusted
the door hinges, pulled out some interior plastic molding around the
rear-corner window, and I've pushed and smacked just about anything I
can access from inside the trunk and up on the package tray.

All to no avail. At least, nothing's helped with the rattle-- the car
does look better having both passenger-side doors aligned the same, though.

I'm continuing to search for things that might rattle, but really, I'm
at a loss.

Argh! Stupid car! Can't abandon her quite yet-- today my boss was
trying to convince me to buy an older Jaguar, or a newer Mustang SVT...
Tempting... Stupid rattle! Maybe I'll look into buying a newer SHO,
maybe a gen 3 with the V8... ooooohhhh....

Regards,
