[Shotimes] Fuel Tank concern

It's been hot here and I stopped to put gas in my car yesterday and when I
opened the tank, I had some serious pressur built up. Like enough so that I
could hear the metal of the tank popping as the pressure was released. Is this
"normal" or might something be wrong? I thought any excess pressue is supposed
to dump to the charcoal canister or something like that.

I don't really feel like haivng the gastank splitting cause of some pressure
buildup.
