Good morning...

I subscribed to this list to assist in a engine swap in a customer's car. I'm a painter/panelbeater/fabricator/restorer by trade...and one of my specialties is Mercedes-Benz cars. Aforementioned customer has a really pristine '76 MB 280SL (the small two-seat roadster) with a VERY sick motor. I've purchased (as salvage) a low-mile running '93 SHO that's a "hard roll" as a donor. I know what I'm getting into, understand the complexity, the Ford EEC and so on (want evidence? See www.msdra.com/Fordzuki.htm )but I'd really welcome any input/information/etc. concerning modifying one of these engines for a rear-driver application...specifically, stuff like getting the water outlet and the throttle body on the "correct" end of the engine, and transmission/clutch/bellhousing combinations. At this stage, my first approach is going to be adapt the existing (four-speed manual) Benz tranmission to a Ranger bellhousing, but further disassembly of both vehicles may prove that the wrong approach. I'm also going to have a bunch of Taurus parts left over (no sheetmetal) from a 59K car.

Thanks for any input!
