[Shotimes] Thermostats

I'm up replacing my thermostat in a month-long
"mini-overhall", and after running across a problem, I
have a question. One parts dealer says i need a cheap,
$2 o-ring for the new thermostat, while another says I
need a $9 gasket??? Um, is there a difference between
the two??? Which one do I go get???
