Check the inside of the door frame. From what little I know of the previous
history, I highly doubt that the first few owners were ambitious enough to
cover the pillars in tape.
The tape solution makes a lot of sense, as it is much easier to apply tape
on the assembly line for SHOs (versus regular SLOs) than it is to have an
assembly process that paints the pillars.

That's interesting Ron, but they should be painted. I'm pretty sure they
stopped using the tape in '91. Maybe some other Gen2 owners can chime in?
My '93 does not have tape.
