[Shotimes] CPS Failure Mode Confirmation

I read two conflicting symptoms:
No tach reading is classic symptom of CPS failure, since it is the
signal origin for the whole system. Ditto with the sudden stall.
Hard start with a tach reading sounds like a CMP, the CPS must be
working or you would not get tach.
CMP should not cause stall, technically, but several listers (see Eric)
have reported both dead tachs and stalls when CMP dies. Maybe it "shorts
out" or something.
If you are sure you got a tach reading at least once, I'd try the CMP
first. You could always just unplug it and test run the car without the
CMP. It may take 2 or 3 starts but should then be O.K.
