Steve,
Only you can truly say what you would be happy with, but
from my experience, if you are agonizing over getting rid of
your SHO, then you should probably hang onto it.
I get calls every week from people sorry they sold their
SHO, they want to find another one. Their "new" car
(usually much more expensive and brand new) just doesn't do
it for them.
As for the Sable or any regular Taurus, they are fine cars,
but the SHO package is the difference between driving a
rental car and driving a NLSS (Near Luxury Sport Sedan) (I
just made that up!) ;) I have compared the regular 24V
Taurus to my 96 SHO, and there is a night and day difference
in feel and quality if not outright power. Around town the
200 hp Duratech (and watch out, some years without dual
exhaust are NOT 200 hp, they went cheap a couple of years)
feels nice, but get it on the highway and make a pass, or
really gun it and the SHO's V8 makes all the difference.
As for the minivan, it it won't replace the SHO and is as
good of a deal, then your wife, driving her "new" Honda
might not care if you put some bucks in the SHO to keep YOU
happy!
