I haven't looked at a tan interior on a Gen 3 that closely, but according to
Don Mallinson, the dark color is not gray, but rather a very dark brown.

I'm sure it came from the factory that way - and, it matches all down the
length of the console, too.
I've seen other cars with "odd" color choices...for example, any new Miata
ordered with leather forces you to take a tan instead of black top - check
one of those out on a silver car - YUCK !
