I've discovered the opposite.  Sometimes the glue can't quite hold the button in
place for whatever reason.  So if I have to do it again, I take some 240 grit
sandpaper, and roughen the glass right where it will go, and I also roughen the
button.  It works fine every time after I do that.

When I was bringing the Plus from Hell through Tennessee, the morning after the
heater core blew like an Iraqui blockhouse, I didn't have sandpaper, so I roughened
the button by sliding the windshield side of it against the sidewalk next to the
car.  That worked fine, too.

I let them dry for about 5 minutes, then put the mirror on carefully, and press on. 
Usually I don't have a day to wait....I forget to do the whole thing until I need to
use the car again.
