If you have not pulled the codes that would be an excellent place to
start!
Does it tend to do this when it's cold (first start of the day) or warm
(trying to restart shortly after running)? If when cold, I'd guess it
would NOT be the cam sensor.
Can you hear the fuel pump pressurize when you turn the key to "run"? I
believe the brains tell it to run for a set amount of time, even though
it has no idea what the pressure is.
It could be an electrical glitch, but it's more likely to be a sensor.
Good luck, and let us know if you get a chance to scan for codes and/or
do some more investigating!

Subject: [Shotimes] At a Loss
Hi all,
I made a vow that I wasn't going to ask a question for at least a month,
but oh well, I made it nearly three weeks. I'm having a problem with
starting that I thought was the cam sensor. But that was replaced when
I did the 100K mile service. The car was not doing this eight months
ago when I first bought it. What happens exactly is that it might not
start on the first crank or it might but it will take five or more
seconds of cranking. Could this be the fuel pump? Turning the ignition
on and waiting a few seconds for the pump to pressurize doesn't seem to
help. Could it be some sort of electrical glitch or loose connection
somewhere? My tach needle still doesn't read right and I thought that
disconnecting the cam sensor was supposed to kill the tach signal but it
did not. I also thought that disconnecting the cam sensor would only
result in the computer guessing at start up, but my car started fine
then stuttered and died right away, throwing the check engine light ! in
the process. I did that three times in a row. I did this on my lunch
break so I don't have time to run the codes right now. Will a bad fuel
pump throw any code? I'm not sure where to start and would appreciate
any ideas. I've got a 94 ATX if that is relevant for this and there
don't seem to be any performance issues with the engine. Thanks for
listening, JB _______________________________________________
