It will take you 5-10 minutes to pull out the cable the first time, well
under 5 minutes after that. Just pull it out. Check it to make sure that it
isn't beginning to fray and that's what is causing the hard action. If not,
just lube it and work it. Clean & lube the TB mechanism it connects to,
also.

Anybody got suggestions on how to do this?

I'm thinking maybe squirt some oil on each end where the cable comes out of 
the housing, and let normal back and forth usage work it in.
