[Shotimes] keyless trunk release

When you tried swapping and it still doesn't work (and I assume the solenoid
works on the other SHO), I don't suspect a new solenoid will help you.
"Maybe" it will work for awhile, but I bet not. That trunk latch mechanism
is crude to begin with, and as the stuff wears, the tolerances get pretty
big. Using the manual lever or the key can put enough force and leverage to
get past the slop and open it, but it's obvious the solenoid doesn't. If you
can't reposition the cable to eliminate some of the slop, you might look at
pulling the latch apart and checking the mechanism. Mine was very sloppy,
plus my actuator lever from the lock to the mechanism was very worn (on the
'95).

Subject: [Shotimes] keyless trunk release

I can open my 91's trunk manually with the handle by the driver seat. But
it won't open with the keyless code. With the cable disconnected from the
latch, I have confirmed the solenoid does pull in the cable. The latch
mechanism seems to move smoothly and I have lubed it. However, when the
whole thing is assembled, the solenoid is unable to open the trunk. I can
hear the solenoid operating but it does not open the latch.

It seems like the solenoid is unable to generate enough force to pull on the
latch adequately. I have tried swapping with another high-mileage SHO; this
had the same result.

Can a solenoid weaken over time? Should I be heading to my local Ford
stealer for a new solenoid?
