I wonder if it's just a coincidence?  It doesn't matter if water gets past
the moonroof seal, the water drains out the drain tubes.  Theoretically you
could open the moonroof and fill the surrounding "tray" with water and you
shouldn't get any leaking into the interior.  I can't see how the wind
deflector would make a difference.  Maybe one of your drain tubes has become
disconnected?
