Robert,

I have not forgotten about you.  I was in contact with one of our bearing
specialists that tried to track that bearing number.  I was sent to NTN
(here in Atlanta) where I spoke to one of their engineers.  It seems that
the 6203LU part of the number is easy, it defines it as a normal ABEC class
1 6203 bearing with a seal on one side only.  The X12 is what has them
stumped.  It appears to relate to a special manufacturing process that they
think might call out a larger radius on either the bore or the O.D.  Since
NTN US has no records of that particular modification they are trying to get
the original prints and manufacturing specs from Japan.  As soon as I hear
back from them (and I call them every couple days) I will let you know if we
can replace it with a quality (ABEC 1 isn't) SKF bearing off the shelf.  If
we find that there is a larger radius on the bore, I have a manufacturing
plant in Cleveland, OH that can re-grind the profile at a reasonable cost.
If you know anyone with a set of radius gauges, you might check out the
bearings and let me know what the radius dimensions are for the OD and bore.
We can compare that to the prints I have already gotten for the SKF bearings
and see if that is in fact the difference.  The only other possibility that
the NTN people could come up with would be that it calls out a special
material for the seal since it is being immersed in F type transmission
fluid at high temperatures.

I was kinda hoping we could solve this problem since that bearing is about
the only part that fails in the SHO power steering pump and I have heard
through the grapevine that new ones are starting to get scarce.
